Books

I was glancing at some of the books in my bedroom and thinking about the authors I read. I've really been berefit of good fantasy since Marion Zimmer Bradley passed, but all good things must come to an end.

I could live in Darkover...but I think I would be one of the headblind people, not comyn. I might could be a renunciate, but then again, I am fond of my husband, so that might not work either. I definitely could not be a drytown woman... I'm too headstrong for that. It would be nice to be comyn though..to be so perceptive, so sensitive that a fingertip touch would be intense.

What other worlds could I live in? I'd like to experience some of Heinleins futures.. where people could get rejuvenated when they get to feeling old and women having babies outside of marriage is not unusual (now that sounds like todays times..) and sexual mores are quite a bit looser than what is customary now.

On the other hand, while I enjoy reading Diana Galbadon's time traveler books, I would NOT want to live 200 years ago. Healthcare was precarious then. I wouldn't have survived childbirth.. either that or my dd would've suffered with brain damage or even died.

Likewise Jean Auel's books.. save me from living with the cave dwellers too. Very interesting to read about, but I wouldn't want to visit.
